Tree Lighting Ceremony

December 13, 2016

O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi First Nation welcomed the return of the Christmas tree lighting ceremony to our community. Many of our youth were too young to remember how it was before. So this years ceremony brought many of the community members together to celebrate. We had free hotdogs supplied by the WRCFS, hot chocolate supplied by the Health Centre, and candy bags supplied by the VLT's. Ed Desjarlais gave everyone a wagon ride and was very heart warming to see the young children huddled together laughing as they went down the road for their ride.

The tree was cut and placed at the band office by the OCC Healing Lodge, which we are very thankful for the beautiful tree. Eventually the lights were turned on about 5:00 pm as the children sang Christmas carols.

We would like to thank Elizabeth McKay, Susie McKay, Chrissy Beaulieu, Norine Moar, Mary Eastman, Betty Moar, Chief Stephanie Blackbird, councillors Patrick McKay, and Delbert McKay for helping at this event. Everyone did their part in making the hotdogs and serving the hot chocolate. Approximately 300 hotdogs were given out as well as 300 cups of hot chocolate and 200 candy bags to those who attended. It was a very successful afternoon/evening for everyone.

The Health staff would like to remind everyone to pick up a newsletter or listen to the radio station for more information on events that are to come in the community.
